Wells are experts in additive masterbatch and bespoke compound formulation and manufacture, based in Stone, Staffordshire UK, the company operates over four sites including innovation, manufacturing, and warehousing.
Formed in 1984 the business now boasts a 24/7 operation supplying the global market place with innovative solutions utilising highly skilled and talented staff with extensive experience in formulating, handling and working with materials which have complex requirements producing tailor made products with demanding specifications and quality requirements.

What we do.

Specialist additive masterbatches

Wells produce specialist additive masterbatches and compounds based on a wide range of polymer bases, including polyolefins, biopolymers, biobased and compostable polymers, EVAs, EMAs, nylons and many more.
Wells ability to handle materials with complex requirements such as powders, liquids waxes and high viscosity fluids, compounding into easy-to-handle pellets means that customers can benefit from enhanced functionality without difficult handling challenges presented by the individual raw materials.

Bespoke solutions

In addition to a large selection of ‘off the shelf’ formulations for film, fibre and sheet extrusion, injection moulding and other polymer processes, Wells has a strong core business of bespoke solutions, in addition to a highly successful contract manufacturing side with strong partnerships with companies who may have materials they wish to be put into a specified polymers or who wish Wells to manufacture materials on their behalf.

2024
Rebrand and New Website

Wells Plastics Limited launches ambitious rebrand and new name to become Wells Performance Materials in order to communicate more clearly to its customers and stakeholders its products and values.

2022
A Busy Year

In 2022 Wells created the Innovation Centre, aquired a new raw material warehouse and associated office space, gained a Gold EcoVadis rating putting it in the top 4% of all companies registered and completed a Management Buy Out

2020
Ecovadis Sustainability Rating

Wells achieve a Silver EcoVadis rating as it continues its sustainability journey and helping focus sustainability within its longterm growth plans.

2019
Environmental Management Sytem

In 2019 Wells was succesful in achieving ISO 14001:2015 another significant step in building on its environmental credentials and contributing to the environmental pillar of its sustainability goals.

2018
Increased Capacity

In 2018 the business underwent a significant capacity uplift to meet increasing demand for its products with a 40% expansion and extension of the current production facility in foot print and capacity.

2015
OBPF Founding Members

In 2015 Wells are one of the founding Members of the Oxo-Biodegradable Plastics Federation (OBPF) which is now known as the Society of Biodegradable Polymers.

2014
Operation Clean Sweep

In 2014 Wells joins Operation Clean Sweep and encourages its supply chain to follow suit, implementing improved controls for reducing the amount of polymer pellets escaping the supply chain into the environment.

2013
Reverte™ Recognised

In 2013 Wells wins the Sentinal Business Award for its work in environmental solutions for polymers with the development and international launch of Reverte™ oxobiodegradables for PET films.

2012
Expanding Distributor Network

In 2012 Wells increases dramatically its international footprint through an expanded distribution network reaching from the Far East all the way to South America.

2011
Management Buy Out

In 2011 Key Capital Partners (KCP) supported a management buy-out and provided investment for growth.

2009
Growing Technical Team

In 2009 due to the growing demand for Wells products and the ongoing expansion of the range of materials processed at Wells the Technical Department was invested in further with more staff.

2007
International Distributor Conference

In 2007 Wells expanded its distributor network and hosts its first International Distributor Conference in Costa Rica with a focus on environmental solutions in polymers .

2006
The First Expansion

In 2006 the business completed its first site expansion in Stone, Staffordshire taking on more warehousing and office space, including an expansion of the laboratory facility to support the growing business.

2003
Reverte™ Arrives

In 2003 Wells develops and launches a wide range of oxo-biodegradable masterbatches for use in polyolefins which would become the Reverte™ range of products in 2005.

1999
Bactiglas™ Antimicrobial Masterbatches

In 1999 Wells becomes an early adopter of silver technology in plastics offering antimicrobial properties which would ultimately become the Bactiglas™ range of masterbatches, compounds and powders.

1997
Under New Management

In 1997 under new ownership and management, Wells started an expansion of the product range and customer base, beginning to look outside of the UK for new business with a focus on bespoke compounding .

1992
Quality Management System

In 1992 Wells gained certification to ISO 9001:2000 for its Quality Management Systems, building a reputation for quality and excellence.

In 1984 the business was founded in Stone, Staffordshire by Danny Wells supplying the UK with specialist additive masterbatches for the film and fibre marketplace, with a particular expertise in UV masterbatches.

How we work.

Wells prides itself on being a proactive partner within the polymer industry, working with a range of clients from chemical producers looking to introduce a new material into an additive masterbatch form, through to established processors requiring something a little more bespoke.

Utilising a brand new Innovation Centre created in 2022, Wells is able to support its range of services from product development, lab trials, material selection and testing, through to full scale production in its state of the art plant.

Wells Plastics Founded

The business was founded in 1984 by Danny Wells servicing the UK with specialist additive masterbatches for the UK film and fibre marketplace, with a particular expertise in UV masterbatches.

1997
New Management

In 1997 Danny left the business, under new management the product range began to grow.

1999
Bactiglas™ Launches

In 1999 the business entered antimicrobial masterbatch marketplace which would become the Bactiglas™ range of products.

2003
Reverte™ Arrives

In 2003 Wells developed a range of oxo-biodegradable masterbatches which would become the Reverte™ range of products in 2005.

2006
Expansion

In 2006 the business began its first site expansion taking on more warehousing and office space on the same industrial estate, including an expansion of the lab facility to support the growing business.
