PFAS Free Processing Aids
A state-of-the art range of high-performance PFAS free polymer processing aids, replacing conventional fluoropolymer types, offering improved processability and aesthetic properties of extruded films, sheets and mouldings.
Improving melt processability and aesthetics of polymers.
Polymer processing aids are designed to improve the melt processability and handling of high molecular weight polymers. They can also give finished articles improved aesthetic properties by removing flow marks and die lines thereby improving the parts gloss and clarity.
Wells PM has developed a range of PFAS Free Process Aid masterbatches performing in even the most demanding of application suitable for a range of polyolefins including metallocene polymers.
PFAS Free Processing Aids find use in a wide variety of applications from blown film to fibre, profile extrusion, pipe/tubing and cabling processes.
They can be used with many polymers including LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, mLLDPE, PP, polystyrene, ABS and others.
How it works.
Wells PM PFAS free processing aid masterbatches are the result of extensive development over many years and successful industrial trialling and are based on a variety of technologies depending on the requirements of the end application and regulatory constraints.
These materials have shown excellent performances in a wide range of applications and polymers, including demanding metallocene polymer systems, the technologies used include innovative systems which can be either PFAS free or PFAS and Siloxane free products.
The Wells PM product range has been developed to work as an effective replacement to traditional fluoropolymer polymer process aids and has been rapidly and successfully adopted by the industry in light of changing legislation.
Polymer process aids masterbatches are designed to provide a dynamic low friction surface coating on the extruder screw, barrel, and die which enables the polymer melt to pass through with less resistance. This ease of flow helps to reduce pressure and motor torque within the extruder giving the processor scope for energy savings.
In addition to potential cost savings polymer processing aids also improve the aesthetic appearance of the product and can extend productive ‘up time’.
In blown and cast film extrusion, processing aids are predominantly used to reduce melt fracture (sharkskin) and die lines, and to promote reduced gel formation and cleaner running.
This enables the processor to run longer between stops for dies cleaning.
In sheet and profile extrusion, and in extrusion blow moulding, the processing aids main functions are to reduce die lip build up, removal of die lines, and for faster colour change over times.
Wells processing aid masterbatches are very effective, even when used at very low addition rates.
