Antiblocking Masterbatches
When used with a polymer our antiblocking masterbatches will reduce blocking tendency allowing films or sheets to be easily separated.
When used with a polymer our antiblocking masterbatches will reduce blocking tendency allowing films or sheets to be easily separated.
Blocking is an undesirable attraction between adjacent layers of film or sheet, often making it difficult to the separate individual layers. Certain polymers including, polyolefins and polyesters have an inherent tendency to block.
Blocking can occur during extrusion, conversion processes or during storage. Blocking can reduce packing efficiencies on automated and manual packing lines as it causes for example bags to be more difficult to open and stacks of thermoformed trays harder to separate.
The introduction of an antiblocking agent into a polymer will reduce the blocking tendency allowing films or sheets to be easily separated. The antiblocking agent will create a microscopic roughening of the film or sheet surface which reduces the available contact area between adjacent layers.
Many different materials can be used to give an antiblocking effect. The choice of antiblock depends upon the polymer being used and the quality requirements of the end product. For example, if a product requires high clarity, it is important to choose an antiblocking agent with a refractive index as close as possible to that of the polymer.
Wells has developed a range of antiblocking masterbatches using finely selected raw materials which have been successfully used to:
Antiblocks are non-migratory additives and therefore, in coextruded structures, need to be present in the outer layers.
Wells antiblocking masterbatches can be custom formulated to suit specific applications or polymer types. Combination masterbatches with slip are also available.
Applications: Blown Film, Cast Film, BOPP
Polymer Carriers Available: PE, PP, PET

The business was founded in 1984 by Danny Wells servicing the UK with specialist additive masterbatches for the UK film and fibre marketplace, with a particular expertise in UV masterbatches.
In 1997 Danny left the business, under new management the product range began to grow.
In 1999 the business entered antimicrobial masterbatch marketplace which would become the Bactiglas™ range of products.
In 2003 Wells developed a range of oxo-biodegradable masterbatches which would become the Reverte™ range of products in 2005.
In 2006 the business began its first site expansion taking on more warehousing and office space on the same industrial estate, including an expansion of the lab facility to support the growing business.
In 2009 the
Technical Department expanded further
In 2011 KCP supported a management buy-out and provided investment for growth
In 2012 Wells increased dramatically its international foot print through an expanded distribution network.
In 2015 Wells are the founding Member of the oxo-biodegradable plastics federation (now known as the Society of Biodegradable Polymers)
In 2018 the business underwent a significant capacity uplift with a 40% expansion and extension of the current production facility
In 2019 the business achieved ISO 14001
In 2020 Wells achieve a Silver EcoVadis rating
In 2022 Wells created the Innovation Centre, a raw material warehouse, gained a Gold Ecovadis rating and completed a Management Buy Out
