At Wells we recognise that all of our products and services have an impact on the environment and must be considered in our long-term business plan
Wells' Commitment to Sustainability:
At Wells, we recognise the importance of considering the environment and climate change in our long-term business plan.
We are dedicated to minimising any negative impacts our operations may have on the environment and continuously improving the sustainability of our business.
Environmental Management System:
Wells has developed an Environmental Management System, including new company policies, regular monitoring, and reporting of environmental KPIs.
This effort has earned us the ISO 14001 accreditation, demonstrating our commitment to environmental responsibility.
Holistic Sustainability Approach:
In addition to environmental impact, Wells takes a holistic approach to sustainability, considering labor, human rights, ethics, and supply chain.
We have achieved a Gold rating from EcoVadis, placing us in the top 4% of registered companies globally.
Collaboration with SBEN
We have worked closely with the Staffordshre Business & Environment Network (SBEN) and served as a case study for their Environmental Sustainability GROWTHmapper®.
Through this collaboration, we have identified and implemented projects that save over 33 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Employee Engagement
To foster a culture of sustainability, all Wells staff, regardless of role, receive standard Environmental Awareness training and are financially incentivized to reduce waste.
We believe in engaging all employees in our sustainability initiatives.
High Level Sustainability KPIs
Following the management buyout in 2022, Wells has set high-level sustainability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Sustainability considerations are now integrated into almost every business decision, from product development to customer delivery.
Continued Progress
While we have made significant progress, Wells acknowledges that our sustainability journey is ongoing. We understand that more needs to be done, not only within Wells but also throughout the industry.
Future Goals
Looking ahead, Wells has new projects in the pipeline and is eager to build on what we have learned so far. We are committed to taking on new challenges and making strides towards our goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
Sustainability Solutions
Providing Solutions… And adding value to customers through innovation and technical excellence includes sustainability, see below some of the products available from Wells that can improve the sustainability profile of your products. Sustainability and plastics can sound counter-intuitive to those outside of the industry but nothing could be farther from the truth, whether that be masterbatches to help widen the processing window of recycled feedstocks for film extruders and moulders, or high performance additive masterbatches which allow down gauging and light-weighting of products
Antioxidant Masterbatches
In line with both the UK & European Plastics Strategies, Wells has developed a range of high performance masterbatches for polyolefinic systems for use specifically in recycled feedstocks and which provide significantly improved thermal stability, resulting in a performance similar to that of virgin polymers, one such example is AO95743.
Desiccant Masterbatches
With a highly experienced team of technical and production staff, extensive manufacturing facilities based in the heart of the United Kingdom and a newly created Innovation Centre, Wells services the polymer processing industry both within the UK and Internationally.
Blowing Agent Masterbatches
The use of blowing agent masterbatches have long been used to help with ‘light weighting’ of large items, or to help fill the mould and remove unwanted sink marks, however some of the lesser-known benefits include reduction in cycle time, a reduction in energy can all be achieved, generally, without compromise on aesthetics. Wells produces and supplies a wide range of both endothermic and exothermic blowing agent masterbatches.
Processing Aids
Processing aids not only can they be used to great effect in virgin polymer extrusion but they are also used to great effect in helping improve the processability and aesthetic properties of films and sheets extruded from recycled and/or mixed feedstocks. Wells produce a wide range of processing aids which are either off the shelf or can be tailored to a customer’s specific application and combined with other functional materials to optimise production outputs, reduce scrap level and increase value.
Bespoke Solutions
Many companies are turning to biobased and biodegradable materials in order to improve the sustainability credentials of their finished products and brands. With extensive experience in the processing of such materials Wells is able to offer either ‘off the shelf’ solutions or to develop more bespoke products in partnerships through Wells bespoke solutions or contract services with an individual client.
